A visit to the beautiful
family home that is Scampston Hall is well
worth it.
The Hall dates from 1690 and
has been remodelled and renovated several
times since then.
The hall has recently been
judged Country Life magazine ‘House of the
Year’ and boasts no ropes or barriers to
hinder visitors.
Both the house and gardens
have featured on TV and the walled garden
rather unusually is modern in design but
none the less beautiful for it.
Scampston Hall has however one other
gem on offer and well worth visiting in its
own right and that is its restaurant ‘The
Star’.
As you would expect from the
management team of the award winning ‘Star’
pub and restaurant at Harome in North
Yorkshire the ‘Star’ restaurant at Scampston
provides excellent quality freshly prepared
food.
The chef sources food both
locally and when possible from the walled
garden and you can expect such delights as
home made soup and bread, York ham with
melon and mint crème fraiche and wild
mushroom risotto with wilted rocket and
cheese. The menu is changed daily and
reflects the seasons.
Don’t imagine however ‘The
Star’ is simply restaurant and not for those
wanting lunch or afternoon tea after a visit
to the house and gardens.
The sandwiches and cakes on
offer here are also excellent and the
friendly restaurant staff are happy to serve
you with something as simple as a cup of
coffee.
The atmosphere is friendly
and the restaurant very stylish with indoor
and outdoor seating overlooking the recently
designed and redeveloped walled gardens. The
restaurant also serves as a very tasteful
gift shop selling good quality china glass
and toiletries
The Star is opens with the
gardens in season and then through the year
out of season from Wednesdays to Sunday
inclusive.
Scampston Hall gardens and
the star restaurant are situated just off
the A64 Leeds to Scarborough road 4 miles
east of Malton.
