Imagine
an elegant friendly hotel and
restaurant set in peaceful gardens.
Go one step further and imagine
friendly staff that really cares
about the quality and presentation
of the food they serve.
Take another step and you find
excellent starters and main courses. Then
imagine a restaurant where not only do
desserts look so good that diners frequently
photograph their puddings but where the
attention to detail is only matched by the
sharp and rich flavours of lemon tarts and
chocolate roulades. I’ll share my secret
with you so you can experience all of this
for yourself; visit The Old Mill at
Langtoft.
Seasonal Food
There’s something
magical and evocative about eating seasonal
food. Crab salad never tastes as good as
when it is eaten fresh on warm summer days.
Mushrooms always remind me of autumn and I
only enjoy parsnips in late autumn and
winter. The best and tastiest English lamb
arrives in autumn and works perfectly when
followed by late plump Scottish raspberries
or simple apple pie made with Bramley
apples.
What's on the menu?
Old
Mill starters include sautéed chicken livers
with Madeira served with an autumn salad and
smoked salmon with crayfish tails.
Main courses include
roast pork fillet with apples, rack of lamb
with garlic jus and wild mushroom risotto
and the famous desserts include apple pie,
Eton mess made with raspberries and a
fabulous citrus torte
which is sharp and tangy with a crisp light
pastry, perfectly accompanied with Cream of the Wolds
vanilla ice cream. Indulge in a trio
of Cream of the Wolds vanilla, strawberry
and chocolate. Don’t forget to try the
cheese board and choose from a selection of
eight liqueur coffees to warm an autumn
evening. Flavours include Irish made with
Jameson's whiskey, Italian made with Sambuca
and Mexican made with Tequila.
Menus at The Old Mill
change regularly and a good selection of the
food served is locally sourced within the
Wolds and East Riding of Yorkshire area. The
fully licensed restaurant seats up to 80. A
la carte menu available Monday to Saturday
from 12 noon until 2.30pm and 6pm to 9.30pm.
Sunday 12noon until 7pm.
Sunday lunches
start from £10.50 and £16.50 for three
courses. Main courses include roast sirloin
of local beef with Yorkshire pudding and
roasted chicken breast all served with
seasonal vegetables. Choose from apple pie,
sticky toffee pudding, trio of Cream of the
Wolds ice cream and pear and frangipan tart
to make a perfect Sunday lunch.
The Old Mill bar meals are
served throughout the week and include
fabulous hot and cold sandwiches. Choose
from lamb and minted mayonnaise, coronation
chicken, chicken and brie, hummus and black
olive all served in ciabatta or tortilla
wraps and perfect for an autumn lunch choose
from the hot sandwiches. The selection
