Situated on a well used cross road the Wolds
Village hardly needs a mention so well know
is it. The licensed restaurant and tearooms
offer everything from a sandwich to Sunday
lunch and evening meals. The food is
traditionally English and everything is
freshly prepared. Don’t assume this means
you will be kept waiting for your meal - one
of the things that the Wolds Village does
really well is service. It is quick
efficient and friendly.
The restaurant is set in 5 adjoining rooms
and has an old fashioned feel with a nice
atmosphere if a little dark. Here you can
have Sunday lunch including the traditional
roast with Yorkshire pudding, all
beautifully cooked. The Wolds Village is
well worth trying for an evening meal,
prices are reasonable and the choices are
simple but freshly prepared and delicious.
The Wolds Village also offers a
conservatory bar. This room in reality
is used for lunches and traditional
afternoon teas and is always busy whatever
the time of year, a testament to the
excellent service and to the well produced
food. Try sandwiches such as Salmon with
tarragon mayonnaise and Coronation chicken
again freshly prepared on a choice of bread
and served with salad. Portions are
generous.
The conservatory overlooks an enclosed
courtyard which in the summer has tables and
chairs for outside dining and which is
filled with tubs of flowers and hanging
baskets. Here you will find a clock
repairer and furniture restorer and you must
visit the Wolds Village gift shop, a small
emporium filed with original gifts, cards,
some food items, pictures and furniture and
lighting in the gallery.
The Wolds village this year opened a hotel
adjoining the restaurant and tearooms. All
the rooms are themed – everything from Tudor
to Gothic, Art Deco and Georgian – all with
on suites. I have it on good authority that
the breakfasts are excellent and generous!
